Ready when you are

Six examples. A whole collection.

Choose a sheet below or download all six in one starter pack. Packs always use the ready-made paper-1 examples. Preview the page count before printing the whole file.

A useful place to start

Start with a one-letter word or a repeated short word. Compare patterns rather than guessing each letter independently: a repeated symbol must decode the same way everywhere. Write your guesses on the lines beneath the cipher. Two optional starting hints appear below the message.

Make the printed page comfortable

All messages were newly written for Printable Puzzle Kit, rather than taken from quotations. Choose a passage group and use New puzzle to change the substitution and sometimes the passage. Keep the same group and seed to reproduce the same output.

About this collection

The twelve original passages are about books, gardens, walks, food and ordinary moments. Punctuation is meaningful, so leave it in place as you decode. A hint gives a printed letter and the actual letter it represents.

Checking the answers

The separate answer page includes the original passage and the complete plain-letter-to-printed-letter key. Hints are optional; cover them before printing if you prefer.

Choose the paper size that matches your printer and use Actual size or 100 percent. Check the preview for margins and page breaks. Read the print guide or contact us about a puzzle issue.
