Look for distinctive letter runs
The WH at the start of WHISK and the unusual sequence in SOURDOUGH can be useful anchors. Once you spot a promising letter, follow a single straight line rather than turning corners. A word can share letters with another word, so finding one does not rule out the same area of the grid.
